Simple supporting tools for development of pellet boiler and stoves
At BEST – Bioenergy and Sustainable Technologies (AUSTRIA) and DTI – Danish Technological Institute (DENMARK) we strive for supporting pellet boiler and stove manufacturers in developing highly efficient and clean combustion appliances. Together, we have decades of experience in innovating, developing, improving and testing combustion appliances. During the next months we will reveal some of our secret methods and approaches via tips and tools! Here is the first to come:
Simple Supporting Tool #01 - Correlation analysis CO – λ (carbon monoxide versus air excess ratio)
Utilization and Output of Tool: Carbon monoxide is a tracer for incomplete combustion. Reducing the carbon monoxide emission has thus a direct impact also on organic hydrocarbon. The emission formation or emission depletion is dependent on technology settings like the burner pot, fuel feeding, control strategy, cleaning cycle, …. This tool allows to analyze their impact in different characteristic numbers not only the averaged emission and to formulate explicit optimization measures for emission reduction.
Description Tool: The tool is based on a excel-file, which is free to use. Basing on timeline data of CO and O2 or CO2, the tool automatically generates a chart displaying the density of measured values. Out of this data following characteristics are extracted: A) level of excess ratio due to dilution/leakage, B) variance in air excess ratio due to fuel feed fluctuation, C) variance of emission formation due to low turbulence/mixing of combustible gases with secondary air and D) denotes the overall emission potential of the current technology configuration.
