Renewable Heating and Cooling in Smart Cities

BIOENERGY 2020+ contribution to the Smart Cities Workshop of the European Technology Platform on Renewable Heating and Cooling

The European Technology Platform for Renewable Heating and Cooling (ETP-RHC) organised a workshop on the topic: Smart Cities – Integrating Renewable Heating and Cooling on 9 February 2011 in Brussels. Objective of this event was to discuss potential contributions of renewable energy sources (RES) to the Smart Cities Initiative as part of the strategic energy technology (SET) plan of the European Commission. In a joint resolution the position of the technology platform was summarised.

BIOENERGY 2020+ represents the Austrian biomass industry within the technology platform and is leading the issue-group Residential Technologies of the biomass panel together with Schiedel. Therefore Christoph Schmidl presented the importance and the role of small-scale biomass heating systems for urban energy supply and the achievement of future renewable energy goals at the Smart Cities Workshop.
